Elektor "Precision Power Supply"

Homebrew PSU This homebrew Power Supply Unit was part of a recent haul which also included a rather retro digital multimeter.

It features a rather nice Kyoritsu movement, current limiting, and sense inputs to compensate for cable resistance.

The inside, however, tells a bit of a different story. Everything is relatively nicely mounted, but the wiring...

Also, there are some smoked components, look at the skeleton pot and the resistor at the bottom of the PCB.

(Incidentally, looks like the enclosure was some kind of a mobile high-voltage power supply in a previous life).

Aieee! Cthulhu Fhtagn!

Inside, back of PCB

The back of the PCB shows a PCB design style that nineteen eighties electro-geeks will immediately recognise. It also carries the number 82178. Yup, Elektor. Specifically, the Precision Power Supply from December 1982.

So. A rebuild is on the cards, with new components where required, and with new, colour-coded, neat-ish-ly layed out wiring.

And then it might make quite a decent little bench PSU.
