Now Hear This!

You can tell and old Shootist, but you can't tell him much 'cuz most likely he can't hear you unless he is looking at you.  It is a sad fact but true.   Many of us who started shooting in the "Dark Ages" have lost a goodly portion of our hearing.  We just never thought about it in those days.  When I would come home from shooting my .30 Carbine Ruger I just figured the ringing in my ears was normal.  Well, it is now!  Sometimes it is so loud I wonder that others cannot hear it.  It interferes with sleep, conversation - you name it.

Ear protection was not something we considered or were educated about.   Today the situation is different.  I have recently been using a set of October Sky's Buffalo Plugs. (October Sky is one of the advertisers and sponsors that helps keep Sixgunner.com up and running and yes, this is a plug for them.)  They produce an earplug that hooks to the hatband of your hat and stays within easy reach.  No more worrying about where I laid the durn things!   The are convenient and the sound-deadening qualities are good.   (Since I am trying to save what little hearing I have left this does concern me.)    And they can be worn in the field while hunting.  Just let them hang and when you get ready to shoot, plug them in, quickly and easily.  It is not something I had thought about until now- using ear plugs while hunting!   Have you?
