The Annual NRA Meeting - 2001
The Annual Meeting was pretty spectacular for an old country boy. Kansas City is no place I care to be for long, but I have to admit meeting with lots of old friends and making new ones was a great time. It was heartening to see thousands of folks who have an interest in firearms come together in one place.
The NRA has taken the track of promoting FREEDOM which is what the whole Gun Rights movement is about. It ain't about GUNS folks. It's about FREEDOM. I was overjoyed to hear this theme being proclaimed. It is time to let the world know that the anti-gunners are totalitarians of the same sort that ruled Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and the other forms of tyranny that abound in the world.
Twyla and I found our way to the Kansas City Exhibition Center where the NRA Annual Meeting was held. We were staying some 10 miles away and found our way downtown OK. Once there Twyla said, "Now where do we go?" I said, "Well, the truck ahead of us has a sign that says Charleton Heston is My President so follow it. They must be going there!" As they were.
The Center was jammed with people but eventually we met up with Sixgunner.Com's "Gunner".. Irvin Smith. Then others drifted along and pretty soon we had a good crowd. We spent the day meeting people we had previously determined we would see. The Exhibition was too large to see in one day. Manufacturers and Distributors from all over the Nation were there. There were LOTS of guns, ammo, and all the related gear as well and hunting ranches and outfitters represented.
I concentrated on meeting some of the people I have been communicating with over the Internet - Roger Hunziker of Phillips & Rogers, Ron Power of Power Custom, and I did not take many photos of guns. Jeff Quinn on GunBlast.Com has a photos of various firearms posted so you will want to take a look there also. I will have some new guns to report on at a later date though, so stay tuned!
